Sell Your Hair: How to Sell Real Hair Directly to Buyers

Have long hair and wondering what it is worth? You have two honest options: donate it, or sell it. This guide is for the second option — selling your hair directly to buyers on Hair Market, without a middleman taking a cut. If you would rather donate, that is a beautiful choice too — but this article is about selling.

How Much Is Your Hair Worth?

Hair prices depend on four things: length, thickness, color, and condition. Virgin hair (never dyed, bleached, permed, or straightened) fetches the highest price, because the strands are still strong and can be re-dyed predictably. Long, thick, naturally black, virgin hair is the most valuable combination.

For a quick estimate, use the Hair Price Calculator — enter your length, thickness, color, and condition to get a reference price range. (The calculator page is currently in Vietnamese; an English version is in preparation.) For the full reference table, see the 2026 hair price table. Remember: these are reference prices. The final price is whatever you and the buyer agree on.

Measure Your Hair Before You List

Buyers ask for numbers, not adjectives. Measure three things before writing your listing:

  1. Length (cm): measure when the hair is dry and straight, from the root (where you will cut) to the tip. Write down the exact centimeters — do not estimate by eye.
  2. Weight (grams): tie the hair into a ponytail and weigh it on a kitchen scale. Buyers compare prices per 100g, so weight matters as much as length.
  3. Thickness: tie the hair into a ponytail and measure the circumference of the bundle with a tape measure. Thick, heavy bundles sell for more than thin ones of the same length.

Also note: your natural color, and every chemical treatment the hair has had (dye, bleach, perm, relaxer — including how many times). Honesty here prevents disputes later.

How to List Your Hair on Hair Market

  1. Take clear photos. Natural daylight, no filters. Photograph the full bundle and a close-up of the strands. A short video of you running your fingers through the hair from root to tip is even better.
  2. Write a clear title. Format: hair type + length + differentiator. Example: "Virgin black bundle, 50cm, 200g, single donor." Avoid vague titles like "nice hair" — buyers skip them.
  3. Write the specs in the description. Length, weight, color, condition (virgin or processed), donor count (one person or mixed). If you can, add a short English paragraph with the same specs — international buyers read numbers, not flowery Vietnamese.
  4. Set your price. Start from the reference range, then set the price you actually want. You can always negotiate in chat — but a realistic starting price gets more messages than an inflated one.
  5. Publish for free. Post your listing for free on Hair Market. Buyers message you directly.

Selling to International Buyers

International buyers — salons, workshops, wig makers — often buy in bulk or look for high-quality virgin hair. To reach them: keep the 5 specs in your description in simple English, answer messages promptly, and be precise about shipping. Agree on 5 points before closing: hair price, international shipping fee (who pays), estimated delivery time, packaging, and what happens if the hair does not match the description. Ask the courier directly about fees and delivery times — they change by destination and season. For the full seller-side guide, see the guide to selling hair to foreign buyers (Vietnamese).

What Buyers Actually Look For

Understanding the buyer's side helps you sell faster. When buyers browse listings, they check four things in this order:

  1. Photos and video first. Listings with clear, natural-light photos get opened; listings with one blurry photo get skipped. Video of the actual bundle beats any number of stock-style photos.
  2. Specs second. Length, weight, color, condition, donor count. If your listing is missing any of these, the buyer has to ask — and many will not bother; they will open the next listing that already answers everything.
  3. Price third. Buyers compare per 100g across listings. A listing priced fairly for its specs gets messages; an overpriced listing gets ignored, even with great photos.
  4. Seller reputation last. Reviews, past sales, and badges decide between two similar listings. If you are new and have no reviews yet, compensate with extra-clear photos, complete specs, and fast, honest replies in chat. Your first few sales build the reputation that makes later sales easier.

One more practical point: reply fast. Buyers often message several sellers at once and buy from whoever answers first with clear information. A reply within the hour beats a perfect reply the next day.

Getting Paid Safely

  • Agree on payment before shipping. Only ship after the money is confirmed in your account — never ship on the promise of a payment screenshot. Fake payment screenshots are the most common scam in hair trading.
  • Keep everything in Hair Market chat. Your chat history is your evidence if there is a dispute.
  • Never pay anyone a "fee" to help you sell. Sellers do not pay brokers or middlemen.
  • Beware of fake charity collectors. People who claim to "collect hair for charity" and then resell it are a real problem. If you donate, donate only to organizations with a real name and address.

Read the safety guide before your first transaction. To see what buyers are looking for, browse the search page — and price your hair accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I sell my hair for?
It depends on length, thickness, color, and condition. Virgin, long, thick, naturally black hair sells for the most. Use the Hair Price Calculator for a reference range — the final price is whatever you and the buyer agree on.

Do I have to cut my hair before selling it?
Not necessarily. You can agree on a price first, then agree with the buyer on how to cut it. If you cut it yourself, tie both ends with elastics so the hair keeps its alignment.

Can I sell my hair if it has been dyed?
Yes, at a lower price than virgin hair. State clearly what treatments the hair has had — buyers accept processed hair, but they do not accept being misled about it.

How do I get paid by an international buyer?
Agree on a verifiable payment method (international bank transfer, PayPal, or another service with a clear receipt) and only ship after the money is confirmed in your account. Never trust a payment screenshot alone.
